Frederick Douglass "Rebellion" quote - A December 1866 article in The Atlantic entitled "Reconstruction," abolitionist Frederick Douglass wrote, "The thing worse than rebellion is the thing that causes rebellion." This was a powerful appeal for Congress to embrace the ideals Lincoln espoused in his second inaugural address, in order to pass a civil rights amendment; giving African Americans the right to vote. Read Douglass' words here, and wear them with pride.
